![]() I've designed my fort in a sort of odd way in that my lava cistern is above my water, so I have to drop the lava down two layers and pump the water up two layers to make this work. I have rediscovered the glory of obsidian casting! I don't remember if that undead siege was before or after I raided the nearby tower, but I'ma go back and burn that place to the ground just to be sure. ![]() The other was a small undead force I mentioned earlier in the thread. I've had two sieges so far, and one was just a single intelligent undead dude that hung out in the woods and tried to kill a unicorn, then fucked off once he ran out of ammo and left. Or maybe they aren't all sieges and some are just goblins passing through. I also had one siege show up and then immediately leave without doing anything, but another one came and hung around my entrance until I sent my military out to deal with them. After a while I lower the drawbridge and there's suddenly blood everywhere around my entrance? It's goblin blood? All from the same specific goblin? I guess I might have smashed him with the drawbridge. ![]() I had a vile force of darkness show up, so I raised my drawbridge like you do. Imagine working really hard in order to make it into a top university to study astrophysics, making it to your first Very Serious Class, sitting down full of serious determination, and the dude next to you is taking notes without using his hands, with a glitter pen he's shoved up his nose. Scientists decided to try what happens if they play the Play Call for two fully-grown adult keas that are together in an area and can clearly see there is no other, third kea to make the call, and they just go "great idea, disembodied voice! it's TIME TO FUCKING PARTY!" and start wrestling. They don't have time to play, they got work to do and kids to raise.Īnd then there's the kea, straight-up titled "clown of the mountains", that has a specific vocalization for "playtime!". These motherfuckers are smarter than some people with the right to vote, and they are Extremely Serious Birds. I follow most of this already, the primary issue is during a siege, my hunter hunting and children dropping stuff in refuse/corpse piles always want to wander right out the gate being attacked. The New Caledonian crow, who knows how to specifically build a tool in order to build another tool, never engages in play. Originally posted by jeetrix:i use a combination of elements that work well: If attacker is too heavy for your squad or the siege too large, close the bridge and use ranged to thin out the offensive force. If attacker gets inside you can seal off the fortress entrance with a locked door. if everything is clear you can unpause burrow. The pathfinding will direct the attacker to the bridge, if setup correctly and if attacker doesnt fly. put your squad on station on the bridge, guarding it while the surface workers are fumbling to go inside. If an attack happens, unpause the burrow, urging everyone inside. they should be working or drinking at the inn, praying, etc. dwarves shouldnt wander freely around the forest. assign everyone to underground and forbid external workshops to be ready and put it on pause and let your setup do its thing. You can organise your squads to be stationed / training near that surface safe-area. wall has to be high enough because a lot of attackers climb. ![]() This would also be the spot of your grazing-pens, trade post and refuse/corpses stockpiles. for sieges you can also build a sort of walled off part on surface with a drawbridge and surrounded by a moat to have a safe spot on surface where the rest of your dwarves can catch some sunlight. limit the amount of dwarves that are allowed to do those jobs to specific individuals. you only really need ordered plant gathering and wood cutting there, maybe some taming/hunting/fishing if thats your thing. in my experience the stepladder/tree gathering mechanic is not reliable to use on big areas and without restraints. ![]() limit your gathering spots to a couple of good trees and make sure not everyone is climbing in trees at will. limit the dwarf surface movements by high traffic areas to controlled gathering zones so they dont wander off.
